Why Rest Isn't Always What You Think It is
I recently went on vacation, planning for a week of rest and relaxation in a warm spot. But, as life often does, things didn’t go as planned. A cold front rolled in, and instead of soaking up the sun, I found myself in jeans and sweaters, scrambling to make the best of the chilly weather.
The irony? I’ve been sharing about purposeful rest for weeks, and suddenly, I was the one struggling to “just be.”
Without my planned water activities, I retreated to working on my coaching business—partly because I’m so excited about it and partly because I was bored. I binge-watched Netflix (hello, sensory overload!) and frantically searched for activities to do in the cold. I hate to admit it, but my attitude wasn’t the best.
Then I came across a quote that stopped me in my tracks:

That simple truth shifted my perspective. Instead of whining about the cold, I decided to embrace it. I took a yoga class, walked miles in the brisk air, and captured photos of trees that reconnected me with nature. I put my phone down (more than usual) and made a point to go out at night to enjoy the Christmas lights that were still up.
What I realized is that I’ve spent much of my life focused on “endless expectations and conditions,” and it’s led to a lot of unnecessary disappointment. I’m determined to change my mindset.
This week, I learned that I needed rest—but not in the way I thought.

Multitasking with Water
I’ve always been a multitasker, but I’m learning it’s not always a good thing—except when it comes to products that can do more than one thing for my health.
