As the days get shorter and colder, it can be easy to hibernate indoors. But I’ve discovered that getting a little sunlight—even in the winter—makes a big difference in how I feel. Research backs this up: sunlight helps regulate your circadian rhythm, boosts your mood, and even supports your immune system.
For me, sunlight has become part of my morning routine. It’s been super cold, but thankfully the sun has been shining. I start my day by opening the blinds and sitting by the window with my coffee, soaking up the natural light. If I’m feeling brave, I bundle up and get outside for a walk.
One of my biggest motivators is Theo, my golden doodle. He’s been a little lonely since we lost our Bernese Mountain Dog, Bear, and these walks are good for both of us. Even if it’s just 15 minutes in between clients, I’m making the effort. I used to think that taking this time for myself was selfish, especially since I could be crossing something off my to-do list in those 15 minutes. But I’ve learned that this isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity, both for me and for Theo.
The cold air can be harsh, but the sun is energizing. It lifts my spirits, gives Theo the exercise he needs, and helps me stay grounded during these long winter days. So if you’re like me and struggle to make time for yourself, I encourage you to find even a small moment to get some sunlight this winter. Open the blinds, sit by a sunny window, or bundle up and step outside—it’s worth it.
Your mind, body, and maybe even your furry friend will thank you. 🌞
